| The Land of Fire (火の国 Hi no Kuni?) is one of the Five Great Shinobi Nations, and contains the hidden village of Konohagakure, where the majority of the Naruto series takes place. Per its namesake, the Land of Fire is oriented towards the element of fire, with bright and warm weather. One of the largest countries in the world, the Fire Country is also the leading country for their ninja success rate. The Fire country is marked by forests, helping to give rise to its ninja village "hiding in its leaves". The Fire Country is one of the largest ninja countries in the Naruto world, sharing borders with more countries than any other. It borders Grass, Rain, Waterfall, Sound, River, Tea and several unnamed countries. The Fire Country is home to many cities, including Konohagakue no Sato, Tanzaku Gai, Otafuku Gai, Otakame Sato and Tokkuriji.

While much of the country is inhospitable, the population is large and prosperous due to frequent trade with the Land of Fire. The hidden village in the Land of Wind is Sunagakure. The defense of the sand around Sunagakure in the Wind Country is absolute - armies would die before they even get close if not properly prepared for the blistering heat of the Wind Country. The Wind country is marked by deserts and dry mountain ranges. The Wind Country is one of the larger ninja countries in the Naruto world, though it only borders Rain, River and several unnamed countries. Its western most borders are currently unrevealed.

It is composed of many islands, with each having its own unique traditions. The Land of Water and Kirigakure are shown only briefly in the series, but several ninja featured in the series hail from this area.To get to Kirigakure is no picnic - it's surrounded by heavy fog and heavy, craggy rocks that are deadly and near impossible to penetrate if one does not know the way. Surrounded by heavy fog, it's also a great place to ambush an infiltrator. The Water country is one of the smaller countries in the series, but it has a strong ninja force. This coupled with it being an island grants the country a great defense against outside threats. The greatest threats to the country seem to come from within, constant wars and strife has caused many citizens and ninja to turn against themselves and the country leadership.

The country and its inhabitants go largely unseen until late in the second half of the series. The Lightning Nation is a country of mountainous ranges and home to Kumogakure no Sato - a village literally hidden in dense clouds, clouds that normally hide the sun. Being such a beautiful country the Lightning Country is a popular place for tourism, and also known for their weapons and lightning based shinobi ninjutsu. The Lightning country is one of the unrevealed lands in Naruto. The Lightning Country is one of the larger ninja countries in the Naruto world, but it only shares a border with one unknown country. The country had been marked by conflict in the past, with wars with neighboring countries taking a heavy toll on its clans like the Fuuma. It was this constant strife that provided the country with enough reason to welcome Orochimaru in the hopes he could make them powerful. The current proper name of the country is unknown, citizens refer to it as the "Rice Field Country" while Sound ninja refer to it as the "Sound Country." The difference arising because of "Rice Field's" filler origin, but inuniverse it could be because the Sound think of it as their country now. The country shares borders Fire and two as of yet unnamed countries.
